The grand reveal of the 2018 Voice Program fellows. Hear a combination of songs and arias that display their burgeoning talent.
For the annual OperaFest, director James Darrah will serve as the curator for an evening of unexpected operatic discoveries as the Vocal fellows take over the Miraflores campus. Small scenes, arias, and ensembles will come to life throughout the gardens. Following these vignettes, the evening culminates in celebrating the Leonard Bernstein centennial with a new fully staged production of the legendary composer’s jazz-infused Trouble in Tahiti in Hahn Hall.
Deborah Voigt has programmed four Vocal fellows and five Vocal Piano fellows in an evening of songs and arias by Wagner, Verdi, Richard Strauss, and contemporary composer Ben Moore. Ms. Voigt joins the fellows in a special conclusion.

James Conlon conductor / James Darrah director
LA Opera’s James Conlon conducts and James Darrah directs an all-new production of Mozart’s brilliantly comedic and profoundly moving The Marriage of Figaro. The 1786 collaboration with librettist Lorenzo da Ponte celebrates love and passion amid the rising strength and self-awareness of the bourgeoisie. Rich characters are brought to life by the 2018 Vocal fellows and an innovative design team performing alongside the Academy Festival Orchestra.
